The latest development code can be downloaded from the Subversion repository using

Xplanet can be compiled with support for the GIF, JPEG, PNG, PNM, and TIFF image file formats. The FreeType library (USA mirror, European mirror) is required for text annotation.
If you are not interested in displaying multiple bodies, and want to use xplanet to display hurricane tracks and updated weather information with Hans Ecke's scripts, you're better off using version 0.95a, which is simpler to configure and run than the 1.0 version. Older versions are available at the xplanet file download page.
